Our Artist today is Maya Angelou. She was an American poet, singer, and civil rights activist. Her body of work is so broad and consists of everything from autobiographies to books of essays, to her famous poetry.
We love her quote “ Try to be a rainbow in someone else’s cloud’. It is from her book “Letter to my Daughter.” And it has inspired today’s project!!
For this project you'll need...
Cardboard cut into a rainbow shape
Pattern Paper in rainbow colors
Pom Poms & Stickers in rainbow colors
Scissors
Glue
There is a little bit of prep you have to do for this project. The first thing is to get your "canvas" ready. We like using cardboard for this project because it's studier than regular paper. If you don't have cardboard you can also use foam core. You will simple round off your rectangle so it arches just like a rainbow.
The next thing you'll need to do is cut up your paper into smaller shapes. These can be rectangles, squares, triangles, or circles. You decide.
Now you're ready for you little one to join.
Step 1: Starting from he outer edge glue red paper and textures down outlining the arc shape. (Remember you're child is the artist, so if they don't want to start with read they don't have to).
Step 2: Continue with each color of the rainbow (or the color of your child's choice).
And there you go... a beautiful Maya Angelou inspired rainbow!! We hope it encourages you to be a rainbow in someone else's cloud.
